This song, as will soon be obvious, borrows the olde Englishe Tune of “Trampers and Hawkers” which was in turn lifted to his own high purposes by Bob Dylan in “With God on Our Side”.  Thus, the eternal folk process.  But the sentiments are different from either of those forebears.
